See what’s hiding behind Apple’s new Mask emoji

Apple updated its new “Face with Medical Mask ”
emoji with  rosy cheeks, friendlier eyes, and eyebrows. In case you’re
wondering what this emoji is for, well, we’re pretty sure this emoji has nothing
to do with whatever it’s going on in the world today.

However, we know damn well what’s hiding behind
that masked emoji:

It’s a smile!

Wearing a mask doesn’t necessarily indicate that a
person is sick or sad; they can be happy, too. And it looks like Apple is
trying to break this stereotype with its latest emoji.

The new emoji is actually Apple’s existing
“Smiling Face” with a mask on it. And no, there isn’t any frown under there, so
you can chill now!

And just by the way,
talking about masks and seeing how Samsung beat Apple to the concept of a happy
masked emoji back in March, it seems Korea is far quicker and advanced
than the United States!

Check out the full Emojipedia piece to have a neat
look at how this emoji has evolved so far. iOS 14.2 is due sometime during
this fall.
