If
you’re from the United States and you’ve held a Google Plus account between 1st
January 2015 and 2nd April 2019, and you feel that you were a
victim of the security flaw which Google had disclosed back in 2018, then there’s a good news for you. You can now register and make a claim from the settlement.
The
lawsuit had settled for approximately $7.5 million and every member is eligible
to demand their $12 after the attorney fees and other costs are confirmed. Of
course, the price could vary keeping in mind the number of people who register
for their claim. You can register any time you want before 8th
October.
It’s
interesting to observe that at the time Google rejected any notions suggesting
that any data was ever accessed or exposed. However, soon after, the company
shut down its social network and publicly admitted the lapse. At the time of
its shut down, the company said that low usage and engagement was observed – which
didn’t come as a shock considering it was never a competition for Facebook or
Twitter.
Google
has always denied the allegations but the settlement was made. It said that no
user ever sustained any damage as a result of a software bug.
Indeed,
if you’re interested in making a claim, you should head over to the settlement
website, and provide your email address that was linked with your Google Plus
account. You also have to mention the dates on which you held the account.
Obviously, the data must be exposed to the security lapse so that you can
acquire the cost of the damage caused. The final hearing is on 19th
November.
