LG Electronics has been making history for the past 50 years. Yes, you read that right! The company was founded by businessman, Yeonji-dong in Busan, South Korea. From refrigerators to television and other home appliances that today we can’t live without, LG slowly made its way into the world’s mobile phone market.
After launching some of the most amazing phones and foldable phones such as the G, K, and V series, LG has now introduced a phone that will revolutionize the face of mobile phones forever.
On Monday, LG took the stage at the biggest tech show globally, CES 2021, to introduce its upcoming smartphone. It’s not just any phone we’re talking about; it’s a rollable phone. LG Rollable looks like an amazing phone from the teaser, with features we’ve never seen before.

While LG did not reveal many detailed specifications or the phone’s overall design at the online event, it did inform the viewers that the LG Rollable will have a rollable OLED display, a resizable screen with a side-rolling feature. This means that the device will be able to transform from a phone into a small tablet. The phone’s screen can slide in and out of place to extend its surface area. This seems similar to how LG’s rollable OLED televisions work. This quality was shown briefly at the press conference.
Another unique feature being introduced with this phone is a virtual human called ‘Reah Keem.’ It was created by the company with artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies. Reah Keem was also the official announcer of the company’s forward-thinking innovations in the digital CES 2021.
Interestingly, Reah Keem is designed as a female musician, and she’s extremely human-like. This Korean virtual talent has joined the world’s growing league of virtual influencers and digital models. Reah Keem is also gaining immense popularity as a social media personality. She has more than 6,000 followers on Instagram and because she’s a DJ, she also has a Soundcloud page.
The third mind-blowing feature that we need to talk about is LG’s new CLOi robot. The LG Rollable can utilize ultraviolet C light to clean high traffic and high touch areas. Oh yes, that’s right, the ultraviolet C light can disinfect spaces such as hotel rooms and restaurants so you can enjoy your time without worrying about germs and viruses. This innovation in the phones comes after COVID-19 because of which hygiene is on everyone’s minds.
The CEO of LG Electronics, Brian Kwon said that “At LG, we will never stop innovating to bring you more convenience, more entertainment and more ways to keep you safe so that you can live your lives to the fullest, whatever changes may come. While our approach to life may be different now, we persevere.”
Besides the premium electronics and AI technology, LG also revealed that it’s working on upgrading its IoT platform. Kwon also said that the company will be hosting a separate event dedicated to its new handset in just a few months. Moreover, the company also announced its TV line-up for 2021, including its new OLED Evo TV and QNED Mini LED TV.
The LG Rollable is the second product under the company’s Explorer Project, a new mobile category the company introduced last year. According to Yonhap news agency, LG aims to deliver devices that can upgrade people’s mobile experience. Under the Explorer Project, LG had launched the Wing, a dual-screen smartphone with a rotating form factor, in September 2020. The phone garnered immense praise, especially from people who enjoy outdoor activities such as camping and hiking.
After the Wing’s success, LG set out to work on the Rollable. While we don’t know when the phone will be launched, the fact that the company has now branded the concept gives us solace that we will see it sometime in the near future.
Other companies, including TCL and Oppo, are also experimenting and exploring the rollable phone displays. Last year Oppo demonstrated a concept device that had an expandable OLED display. Still, for some reason, these manufacturers haven’t moved further from the experiment and concept stages of the rollable phones.
We’re super excited about the launch of LG Rollable, can it come any faster! We can’t wait to get our hands on the mobile phone and test all its cool features. We hope the LG Rollable lives up to the hype it has created.
