Extraordinary mommy of an extraordinary child!

Long before the world came to know Elon Musk as a self-made billionaire,
his mother Maye Musk was a genius herself who worked incredibly hard to raise
her children.

Born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1974, Maye Musk moved to the
city of Pretoria in South Africa along with her family in 1950. She married her
high-school lover at the age of 22, but her marriage couldn’t last long. She
parted ways with her husband after nine years of abusive marriage, and raised
her three children alone.

Here are five incredible reasons why Elon Musk’s mom is a true
genius:

She is a supermodel

Maye developed her interest in modeling from a very young age
and started her career in modeling at the age of 15. Earlier she believed that
her modeling career would be over by the age of 18, but she continued working
for decades and is now considered a successful runway and print model.

“My friends tell me: I was famous before Elon was famous,” she
said in an interview.

She became even more successful when she hit her 60’s and
decided not to color her hair. With a striking hairstyle of white hair, she
grabbed even more jobs from renowned magazines and companies such as an ad for
Virgin America and the frontpage of New York magazine in 2011. She also had a
brief cameo appearance in Beyoncé’s music video “Haunted.”

She is
also a dietitian

With her two master’s degrees in dietetics and nutritional
science, she was a successful dietitian in South Africa. After moving to South
Africa in her 40s, she rebuilt her dietitian career from scratch. Her job as a
dietitian kept her finances flowing when she didn’t get modeling work.

She is social
media savvy

Contrary to the stereotype of old people not being able to
understand social media, Maye is a straight-out social media maven. With the
help of her credible social media connections, Maye landed her first couture
show at the age of 67. She also used her twitter account extensively to build
her career as a lecturer and dietitian.

She
raised her three genius children as a single mother

Maye Musk struggled to make ends meet after her divorce.
“After my divorce, I had to house and feed three kids without maintenance.
Poverty makes you work really hard. I remember crying when one of my kids
spilled milk. The saying goes ‘don’t cry over spilled milk.’ I cried because I
couldn’t buy another milk that day,” Maye said in an interview.

To take care of her children, she worked full time as a
dietitian and model. There are times when she had to purchase secondhand
clothes to save money. “I never felt guilty about working full-time, because I
didn’t have a choice. Taking care of children was the top priority; I worked
hard to keep roof over our heads, food in our stomach and basic clothes on our
back,” Maye said in an interview.

While promoting her memoir “A women Makes a Plan: Advice for a
Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success,” Maye said that her son, Elon Musk,
was showing signs of extraordinary brilliance when he was only 3 years old.

“Well at 3, I knew he was a genius, but you still don’t know
if he’s going to do great things.” Maye said, talking about her 49 year old
son, Elon. With her correct guidance and upbringing, her now billionaire son continues
to make history!
