Cancer is a critical health issue that not only affects the person who gets it but also those around them. Their family and friends also go through a tough time when they witness their loved ones struggling and suffering. They might feel helpless, afraid, worried, anxious, and even angry.
Not knowing what to do or how to help their loved one can be extremely frustrating, which is why it’s so important to create awareness about cancer.
The more people know about the disease, the better they can handle it if they ever go through the experience. Awareness can also help decrease the spread of cancer on International Cancer control day.
February 4th is recognized as the World Cancer Day around the world. It’s your chance to do your bit to support the cause. Here are five creative ways you can make a difference and have a cancer-free future.
The best way to create awareness about an issue and to support a cause in a way that reaches a great number of people is via social media. You can create your own custom social media post with a personal message showing commitment and support for World Cancer Day and share it across different platforms.
If you’re a blogger or writer, consider doing a feature story for the international awareness day, so your readers get information about the campaign. You can also record a video message and post it on social media or your website.
Light up the World
The official colors for World Cancer Day are blue and orange. One of the best ways to create awareness about the disease is by lighting up significant landmarks, buildings, and monuments in the city in these colors.
It’ll create a sense of curiosity in the people and they’ll be looking up what it stands for immediately. This is something you can’t do on an individual level; you might have to write to the concerned authorities of a certain building or monument to get this done. Yes, it’ll require a bit of struggle, but the end results will be worth it.
Join the Action
From fundraisers to blood screenings and informative sessions, there are a number of events being conducted on World Cancer Day. Make sure you attend at least one of these events to show your support for the cause.
What’s unique about this year is that a lot of events are being conducted online, which means that you can attend an event happening anywhere in the world. Make sure you sign up to attend, participate or volunteer beforehand. Trust us; you’ll have such a great time.
Create an Event
Can’t attend any of the official events? It’s okay you can host one of your own. You can gather your close friends and family and have a screening, or a marathon in order to spread awareness about cancer. If you want to do something on a bigger level, you can arrange a conference or a fundraiser; it doesn’t have to in person you can do it online. This way, a lot more people will be willing to attend the event, as they won’t be concerned about their safety.

The people you want to influence are policymakers and decision-makers, whether they’re in your school, community, city, or country.
The Founder of Run for a Cure Africa says, “World Cancer Day reminds us of the global emergency that is cancer and how each of us plays our part in controlling the disease.” We should never underestimate the power of cooperation and collective action to save lives.
