International
Women’s Day is not just about celebrating successful women. It is also
important to recognize their struggles that have been caused due to systemic
oppression directed towards female members of the society.

This
year, friends, relatives and parents remembered all those women who have died
by gun violence. According to everytownresearch.org, every day, more than 100 Americans are killed with guns
and more than 230 are shot and wounded.

Aaren
O’Connor was a young girl who was driving back home when a stray bullet hit
her.  She was speaking on the phone with
her father at that time; her father was pleading to his 25-year-old daughter,
asking her not to move to Chicago.

“I
pleaded with her when she told me she was going to go to Chicago. I said there
are much safer places for you to be,” O’Connor said.

It’s
unclear whether the bullet was directed towards her. However, police reports suggested
that it was a stray bullet, and was not aimed towards the deceased.

We
can’t even imagine the horror her father must have experienced on the other
side of the phone, being completely helpless while his daughter took her last
breaths.

Just
a year ago, another woman was killed by gun violence while she was live on
Facebook. Her parents are still trying to get the video removed from the
platform, which

has now been watched by thousands.

In
another incident, a young girl named Brittany Howard was accidently shot by her
father when he was trying to save her life. While she thankfully survived the
incident, the bullet left a lasting mark on her face. She pleaded the authorities
to drop the charges against her father.

Her
life will never be the same again.
