If we say that coronavirus has increased hygiene consciousness, it would be an understatement. Also, saying that multiple companies are capitalizing through this crisis would also be an understatement.

Therefore, Governor of New York State, Andrew Cuomo said on Monday that they have manufactured a new product called “NYC Clean”. It is a hand sanitizer with 75% alcohol content that exceeds the 60% benchmark set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New York State has termed it the best hand sanitizer and has ordered the production of 100000 gallons per week. Each gallon costs around $6 and will be provided to government agencies, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, schools and prisons.

Unfortunately, NYS Clean will not be available for the public. Still, Cuomo has warned all the companies to stop making extra money during such a situation or else they would take strict action against the shortage of hand sanitizers. “To Purell and Mr. Amazon and Mr. Ebay, if you continue the price gouging, we will introduce our product which is superior to your product and you don’t even have the floral bouquet,” Cuomo said. “So stop price gouging.”
The product is made by Corcraft Products, part of New York’s Division of Correctional Industries. This industry uses assistance from prison to make products like floor cleaner, detergent and fluids. Even though the amount that prisoners are getting in return for NYS Clean has not been revealed, the general wage is between $0.10 and $0.30 per hour.
