The pandemic is serious, but unfortunately, it has become more of a joke for the Americans.
It’s typical of human beings to believe in the nonsensical information rather than acknowledging facts. We take things nonchalantly until we’re faced with an opposed truth. In the latest turn of events, Americans have begun to believe in outrageous theories regarding the face masks. Despite being very clear, it seems that WHO has failed to convince Americans to wear a face mask. All studies indicate that by wearing a mask, you can at least reduce the damage if not completely eradicate the problem.
Based on a new study, it can be suggested that if even 80% of Americans wore facemasks, the collateral damage could be reduced. As already known, the US reached 100,000 deaths toll – a significantly alarming number.
De Kai, an American computer scientist and chief architect of the study, spoke to Vanity Fair about this. He said, “I felt like this was pretty urgent. I saw the country where I grew up, where my family lives [now mostly in the Bay Area], about to face this pandemic without knowing much about something as simple as wearing a mask to protect themselves and others.”
It is a widely known fact that wearing facemasks is nothing new to the people living in East Asia as they do it regularly to avoid pollution. De Kai conducted a series of tests based on models by epidemiologists to track previous epidemics like SARS and Ebola. His study revealed that if 100% American wore facemasks, the infection could face a significant drop if not complete eradication. With no facemasks, the study obviously indicated a poor result.
Hence, to make the results of the study worthwhile and effective, De Kai suggests that, “If you get down to 30 or 40%, you get almost no [beneficial] effect at all.” Thus, the goal should be to ensure that at least 80 to 90 percent of people wear the mask regularly.
