Iran has issued an arrest warrant for President Donald Trump and has requested Interpol to intervene and detain him and a couple of other people. The president has been accused of carrying out the fatal drone strike that killed Iranian General Soleimani in Baghdad.
Ali Alqasmehr has accused Trump and 30 others of involvement in the January 3rd attack that ended up killing General Qassem Soleimani. Furthermore, no other person has been identified other than Trump. Alqasimehr has also stressed that Iran will continue the prosecution of this case even after the end of his presidency.
Interpol has released a statement forbidding "any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character".
Interpol adds: "Therefore, if or when any such requests were to be sent to the General Secretariat ... Interpol would not consider requests of this nature."
Interestingly, US’s Iran envoy Brian Hook has brushed off these allegations and described this move as a “propaganda stunt”.
In a news conference, he said, "Our assessment is that Interpol does not intervene and issue Red Notices that are based on a political nature. This is a political nature. This has nothing to do with national security, international peace or promoting stability... It is a propaganda stunt that no-one takes seriously.”
Requests have been made by Iran to put out a “red notice” for President Trump and others – this is the highest-level notice issued by Interpol that seeks the location and arrested the person in charge on the spot.
