Amazon’s CEO is all set to dedicate a fair share of his money to the cause of climate change as he stated on Monday that he would be spending $10 billion to save the Earth.
Well, the matter does require immediate attention and Jeff Bezos says that he would not only invest in the research for the reasons that are leading to climate change but also power the NGOs, activists and scientists who are actively working to solve this global issue.
The e-commerce giant revealed his plans in an Instagram post saying, “I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change.”
Well, while it might appear impressive to some, the history of Amazon shows how it is reportedly one of the biggest contributors of climate depletion due to a huge carbon footprint.
The fact that the company owned by Jeff Bezos is the world’s largest internet retail service also means that the modes of transportation are quite advanced and the use of fossil fuels to power planes, trucks, and vans for shipment is enormous.
The industry has been under consistent criticism for ignoring the climate emergency in the world, and the Amazon workers in Seattle headquarters also voiced their concerns regarding the practices of the company.
So yes, if Bezos is finally realizing his mistake and assisting the world in combating the issue, everyone would be happy. But one question that remains unanswered is whether the fossil fuel consumption of Amazon that leads to carbon footprint remains unchanged or not?
Because that would be the first step to fight climate change!
Last year, Amazon said that they would try to replace their sources of energy with solar panels, and by 2030, the entire industry would run on renewable alternatives.
However, no significant change has been made as yet, but the $10 billion that Bezos has promised to commit has helped in removing some criticism because his initiative is being appreciated by the followers.
Amazon spokesperson has clearly stated that Jeff Bezos would be using his account to put the donation into action and the measure would be known as the Bezos Earth Fund. You can check the Instagram post below.
