Netflix has just released the
official trailer of its latest show ‘My Love: Six Stories of True Love’ – a
documentary series that has an interesting concept. The series is basically a
tale about six elderly couples who’ve stood against the test of time and
managed to survive despite how serious the obstacles got.
The show is essentially an
expansion of an award-winning documentary ‘My Love, Don’t Cross That River’
which was directed by Jin Mo-Young – the last 15 months spent by a couple who
were in a 76-year old marriage.
In the trailer, we can see
couples having intimate moments with each other and talking about their secret
to a long-lasting marriage. The diversity is clearly evident and seems to be
emphasized in the trailer. Every episode will supposedly tackle relationships
between people from different backgrounds. Hence, you’ll find couples that are
disabled or from different sexual orientation, etc.
What is the main idea of the
show? What have we managed to take away from the brief trailer? Well, it
clearly seems like the show is all set to explore how love persists and adds
happiness and satisfaction to human life. It doesn’t matter who you love, your
relationship will endure all the pain and sorrow if the foundation is strong.
The show truly gives you perspective
on love and how beautiful human relationships are – they add so much meaning to
your life. It doesn’t matter where you are born and who you are; if you’re true
to your relationships, you’re true to yourself.
Interestingly, every episode of
the series is filmed by a different director – the show follows the same
premise. Hence, you’ll come across one couple which is registering their life
and relationship. The unique blend of directors truly makes the show special
because they all come from a different background and add something new to the
table.
This creates opportunity for
the viewers, as they get to see the concept of love as universal. It’s viewed as a human experience that surpasses and fights
all kinds of obstacles present in the world.
The show is directed by the
following directors: Carolina Sá (Brazil), DeeptiKakkar&Fahad Mustafa
(India), Hikaru Toda (Japan), Mo-young (South Korea), Chico Pereira (Spain) and
Elaine McMillion Sheldon (USA). In addition, XanAranda is serving as the
primary showrunner and co-executive producer.
The show will be available on
Netflix on the 13th of April. Check out the trailer and the official
synopsis of the docuseries below.
“Korean
director Jin Moyoung expands his acclaimed documentary My Love, Don’t Cross
That River into the poignant global series My Love. Local filmmakers from six
countries around the world follow one elderly couple — together for anywhere
from 43 to 60 years — through a year in their lives. From the Korean seaside to
a Rio favela; the suburbs of Tokyo to rural farmland in India, Spain, and the
U.S.; couples share the stories and the secrets of their long-lasting love.”
