Everybody remembers watching iCarly – it’s basically “THE SHOW” that you watched while growing up!

Well, things are not going so well for all the cast members after all.

Jennette McCurdy, the actor who played the role of Sam on iCarly, has just given us the reason why she quit acting for good. It’s shocking to know that the actor— who we saw and loved being best friends with Miranda Cosgrove for years— has called it quits.

Basically, she did a podcast with Anna Faris called Fish out of Water. McCurdy said that her experience as a child star were often traumatic. She made a big revelation that it was actually her mother who pursued her to act – it was never her ambition.

She explained that her mother put her up there at the age of 6 and, by the time she was 10 to 11, she became the main financial supporter of the family. She said that her family didn’t have a lot of money and this was the only way for them to make ends meet. It was actually this need that drove her to achieve whatever little success she earned.

She added that the day her mother passed away, her dreams died too. The death of her mother took away her ideas and, from there on, it’s been a difficult journey – something she’s had to deal with alone.

McCurdy also did a show with Ariana Grande for Nickelodeon, which was an iCarly-Victorious spin-off. However, she soon exited from the spotlight and left fans wondering what happened. Some assume that she’ll return for the revival of iCarly – a deal with Paramount+! Apparently, the revival is bringing back all the cast members that we love, including Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, and Jerry Trainor.

But the interesting statement that she made was the one where she revealed that it wasn’t just the death of her mother that made her quit acting – it was also the type of roles she was given.

As Carly’s edgy best friend, McCurdy used to wear a lot of crazy outfits. She would also be asked to pull strange stunts on the show that were bizarre and embarrassing. Commenting on that aspect, she said: “I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most just cheesy, embarrassing.”

Even though she gave up on acting, she hasn’t said goodbye to other aspects of the job. She is still interested in directing and writing stories that are empowering. She spoke about her dream to the woman – Anna Faris – who created the one-woman show!

It was a long podcast and McCurdy was ready to unleash all the regret, embarrassment, and trauma. It’s sad to know that a person— who was such an important part of our childhood— went through so much and we never even got a hint.
