The entertainment industry is abuzz with the news about Marilyn Monroe’s stolen Hollywood statue, which sat on top of an artwork in Hollywood to depict and celebrate women in film. Authorities have called this the “Marilyn caper of 2019.”
The stolen statue depicts legendary Marilyn Monroe in her most iconic pose from “The Seven Year Itch,” which was placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, atop the Ladies of Hollywood Gazebo. (Shown below)
According to authorities, a witness saw a man climb the Eiffel tower-like structure and saw off the Marilyn statue using a saw-like contraption. The police have released a statement saying that forensics investigators have recovered some fingerprints from the scene of the crime, but that they still have to make an arrest as yet on Tuesday.
Along with Marilyn’s statue, the Hollywood Walk of Fame also features various artwork and sculptures of celebrities, like Mae West, Anna May Wong, Dolores Del Rio and Dorothy Dandridge, all women of different cultures who impacted and influenced the Hollywood film industry.
LAPD Detective Douglas Oldfield has said that the artwork means something to the community and that they will continue the investigation into this matter to the best of their abilities.
